Biography
My name is Mel Ffitch-Mitchell and i am a woman artist of a "certain age".My birthday is the 3rd of June and i was born in Southampton General Hospital, in the Uk.
Currently I reside somewhere between the New Forest and the outskirts of Southampton, more forest than city; I like to think
Throughout my life I have achieved a number of different Art and Art and Design qualifications, the current one I am studying for will hopefully culminate in me graduating from Southampton Solent University in 2019, with a degree in Fine Art.
I enjoy the challenge of finding disregarded objects whilst on my travels and interesting rubbish thrown out for the refuge collection, which I then try and visualise as something else. I particularly enjoy this process even before I have attempted to do the piece of work.
When I was 12 years old I was asked to help paint the scenery for the school production of Kenneth Grahame Wind in the Willows, at the time this was unheard of as I was only a first year.
Between the ages of about 17 to 19 years old I undertook two sign writing commissions; I still remember the buzz of seeing my work on display the first time I walked past it.
Over the years I have been involved in numerous community projects which I still enjoy doing when asked and a number of my earlier works are in private collections.
Finally I am equally at home with a chainsaw as I am with a paint pot.
